How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your item price and any shipping the buyer pays.
  2. Optionally add your cost per item to see true profit.
  3. Select your offsite ads situation — most sales have none.
  4. Read the breakdown: every fee Etsy takes, and what lands in your pocket.

How the math works

Listing fee = $0.20 flat, charged per listing and each time it renews or sells.

Transaction fee = 6.5% × (item price + shipping charged to buyer).

Payment processing = 3% × (item price + shipping) + $0.25 (US sellers).

Offsite ads = 12% or 15% × (item price + shipping), only when the buyer arrived via an Etsy offsite ad.

You keep = sale total − all fees. On a typical $25 sale with no ads, that is $25 − $2.83 = $22.17 (11.3% effective).

Frequently asked questions

Every sale carries three core fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 per order for US sellers. Sales attributed to offsite ads add 12–15%.

About $2.83, or 11.3%: $0.20 listing + $1.63 transaction fee (6.5%) + $1.00 payment processing (3% + $0.25). With an offsite ad attributed, add another $3.75 (15%), for $6.58 total.

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the total order amount including any shipping the buyer pays. Offering free shipping does not reduce this fee.

Shops earning under $10,000 per year can opt out in their shop settings. Shops earning $10,000 or more per year are automatically enrolled and cannot opt out; their offsite ad fee is 12% instead of 15%.

Etsy refunds the transaction fee and payment processing fee when you issue a full refund, but the $0.20 listing fee is generally not refunded.

Work backwards: decide your target profit per item, add your costs, then divide by (1 − effective fee rate). With ~11.3% in base fees, a $20 profit target with $8 in costs needs a price of about $31.60.
